Home Again Home Again Jiggety Jig

It’s time to head home. And since I have roughly a 14 hr car ride ahead of me, I apologize if I begin to ramble. This is always the worst part of the trip. No matter what happens during the week, the laughs, arguments, sickness (allergies) and all other family dramas, leaving is always hard. I first moved away when I was 12. My sister and I would visit during the summer for a month or so and then head back before school started. Then sometimes there were the holidays. But as we grew older the visits became less frequent because of school, work, kids and all the other responsibilities that we receive with age. Now we visit every Thanksgiving and at least once during the summer. I really wish we lived closer.

The overall trip, as always, was a blast! The kids all loved getting to play together (10 under 10), the adults had fun talking, cooking and crafting. And my Nanny had fun watch/help all of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids do all the above. It’s was great. We all managed to be in the same house at the same time and have a great meal together. And ever meal at Nanny’s is a great meal. One of my favorites is Chicken Spaghetti

Boil chicken
Spaghetti
add can cream chicken or mushroom Ro-tel
Velveta.
After spaghetti is cooked and drained add all ingredients. Super simple and delicious.
Other faves from this week include: homemade chicken and dumplings, broccoli cornbread, cornbread dressing, lemon icebox pie, cake cookies and pumpkin roll. And since I’m in car and on my phone the pictures of the above can’t be added. I’m adding the cake cookies to my list to make for my christmas cookie exchange. So easy to make.
Box of cake mix any flavor
1 stick room temp butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
8oz cream cheese room temp
Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, add vanilla then beat in cake mix. Cover and set in fridge (overnight if possible) at least 2 hrs. Roll into balls (about a tbsp) roll in powder sugar, place on cookie sheet. Bake @ 350 for 10 min and cool for 5 min. Can also add coconut and pecans.
But believe me when I say all was DELICIOUS!

And like I said eating is not all that occurred this week. There was also crafting and shopping. Nanny and I were up a few nights until after midnight working on something. She helped me get my sewing machine working, I made some hair bows to match outfits she had for my niece, and we worked on a few things together. I taught her a new way to knot no see blankets and she taught me how to make snap bags

I showed her how to make leg warmers and she showed me how to make pillow case dresses

We also made my puppy a new dress (yes I dress my dog and she loves it)

And a new bowtie for my cousins pup

We also made some wreaths

20121125-102530.jpg one I started for my aunt. She can’t decide what she wants to add for Christmas. And thanks to a blog by gentlestitches I browsed thru some of my Nanny’s buttons for a future project.

And to take a break from the eating and shopping, my sister, aunt and I went shopping!

20121125-102856.jpg Yep we ventured out into the wilds of Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping. And wild it was. Some people are crazy! There are always things on Black Friday we want but never enough to trample others, argue with some one, or run through a store like there’s a fire licking at my heels. We will try to get to a store an hour before opening to get in line or stand beside coveted items but there are some people who are scary. They get that crazed look in their eyes and you can almost see them thinking of ways to get people out of their way to get the newest or best low priced item. I was amazed by the number of people out and about and how excited they were over $8 crock pots, $3 pillows or $1.50 towels. I watched people climb over each other for the $8 crock pots. It was funny and scary. I grabbed my $8 waffle iron and blender and snuck away to watch from the sidelines. I also didn’t sprint to these items or initially know about these items. While the others flew thru the newly opened JCP doors and proceeded to run like the hounds of jells were nipping at their heels to the left I, being very curious as to what would cause this reaction, followed at a much slower pace and more direct path. And what a scene I beheld. But seeing and opening and a waffle iron I slipped in grabbed and was quick to be gone before a I was trampled. And after a 15hr shopping trip I have to say we were all very satisfied with our finds. Some of which were lucky finds hours after the initial start. Over all I was able to purchase everything I needed for family there so I didn’t have to worry about shipping later, a few small items for The Kid and a few fun family items like the waffle iron and my new carry on
