Happy New Year’s Eve

Happy New Year’s Eve!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! It was a lot of fun for us. We finally got good snow. It was nice to wake up and see the snow falling instead of the slush we got the other day. And it was the good snow. The snow that’s perfect for snow balls and snowmen. I happened to get up early and notice that the white stuff was falling and got a few minutes of just enjoying it in its perfect whiteness before it got tracked up.

20121231-102106.jpg
And then once it was time to play we got to enjoy a snowball fight and a snowman

20121231-102154.jpg
It was so pretty. I love the look of it on the trees

It was wonderful!

And now it’s time to get ready for tonight! I hope that everyone stays healthy and gets to come to the party. We have been staying home and inviting friends over for the last few years. It’s a fun time. All the kids are invited and get to run and play and the adults get to hang out as well. I try to have the fun party stuff for the kiddos. Hats and blowers and necklaces and even decorate one room with streamers so they feel like they have their own little party. I think the food may be my favorite part tho. We always have way too many dips but they seem to be a hit and its the perfect party food. This year we have taco, blt, spinach artichoke, and buffalo chicken dip along with pepperoni rolls on the menu. I can’t wait to ring in the new year!

Another fun part of tonight will be exchanging Christmas gifts for the final time with some friends and kiddos. I finally finished the last no sew blanket gift and I can’t wait to give them out. After making 15 over the last few weeks I think I’m a pro and that I’m going to take a break from them for a while.

Hope everyone has a fun, safe and happy New Years Eve and a great new year!

Snowy Shopping Day

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I know my house had an excellent few days. The kid was very pleased with Santa and his gifts. The hubby and I didn’t do too bad either. I do believe that we will be building with Legos for the next few months. The kid got Legos and Legos and more Legos this year. We were up at 7am and began the opening process. With a 5 yr old it doesn’t take to long to rip open the paper so it was over way to soon but luckily I got a few pictures. As soon as the paper was cleaned up it was time to start playing. Legos and video games! I’m not sure who enjoys the Legos more the kid or hubby or myself. And while we worked to build the monster train and bat mobile and ninjago vehicles we were also cooking.
Christmas dinner was very yummy this year. Top two dishes: Hubby’s Stuffing and my Brussels Sprouts. Other notables potatoes from a Pinterest recipe and black eyed peas from a Food Network Magazine recipe. The food was great, we had a great visit with family and the kid got gifts he loved. Over all it was a 5 star holiday.

I would have loved to have a white Christmas but that didn’t happen. However, today we have snow and rain and ice. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying after Christmas sale shopping! Every year I get up early and take a few hours of on my own, stress free, kid free, spouse free shopping. I buy some pretty Christmas items, grab a few presents for next year and replenish my gift wrapping supplies. This year I got a few pretties but was a little disappointed at the lack of Christmas lights on the shelves. And now we have decided to brave the snow and head to Ikea. I would like to change up the kids room a little. When we left the house I didn’t quite realize what the roads were gonna be like once we were out and about. And so after some slush and only one lane cleared we have made it close to our destination and have hit snow covered

Hope everyone has a great day shopping, playing, cleaning or whatever you do on the day after Christmas!!

Cookie Wednesday

I spent all day baking and watching Christmas movies! It was great. I think I baked over 15 dozen cookies and dipped tons of pretzels in white almond bark. Ok maybe not tons but it felt like it. Today was my friend A and I’s annual cookie swap and as usual we went over board.

20121219-202220.jpg

We really don’t have many people we give cookies to but we always manage to have enough for 20 trays. This years list: strawberry, devils food and yellow cake cookies, sugar cookies, chocolate chip snowballs, reindeer sugar cookies, white almond bark covered pretzels, Santa hat pretzels, chocolate covered peanut butter pretzel nuggets, candied pecans, and old fashion chocolate cookies.

All kinds of good stuff today.

Between being at the school and getting ready for Christmas I haven’t had much time to craft. However, I have got to take some fun crafts to school to do with my son in his class. Last week we made wreaths out of paper plates. We colored them green and I had Pom Poms, foam stickers, bows and flowers for them to decorate with and boy did they decorate! This week I took in shaving cream, glue, and felt. I love Pinterest. This is my favorite Pinterest craft so far. Mixing shaving cream and glue and painting “snow”. It dries puffy and its so pretty.

20121219-205421.jpg
The kids loved it! It was fun watching the different ways they decorated the wreaths and the differences between the snowmen.

A few weekends ago I went to an Ugly Sweater Party. Here’s the pics

It was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see what everyone wears next year!
Hope y’all have a great evening!

Monday

It’s Monday morning. And I’m very thankful I was able to wake up this morning, fight with my son to get dressed, eat breakfast and bring him to school. It’s been a week since my last post. I was very busy last week and while I was starting to get stressed with it all, I now wouldn’t change it for anything.

Last week I help the PTC with Santa’s Secret Workshop. I was at the school everyday 8-3. Some days earlier and some days later. I was starting to stress because I have shopping to do and gifts to wrap and cookies to bake for cookie swap. But after Fridays events I’m so happy I was able to spend the week at my child’s school. I can’t fathom how some one can look into a child’s eyes and make the decision that man did. I had spent the whole week looking into the smiling faces of my son’s school mates. I have met all the teachers at his school. Seen them in their classrooms. Watched them with the students. I can’t imagine what the parents, family friends and town of Newtown are going thru. My son and I wore green today to remember. He’s only 5 and doesn’t quite understand. But my child is in kindergarten and his teacher is a close friend and many of my other friends are teachers and have children under 10. And as I sit here at the school, in Santa’s Secret Workshop, while I wait for the music program to be over and parents come shop with their kids. I am very thankful that I am here, my son is here and all the teachers and students are here.

It’s Friday!

Excited for the weekend and the next week!

Today I’m gonna be busy finishing up some things for Christmas gifts. A friend asked for 2 snap bags

20121207-093405.jpg
I need to take in a Pillow Case dress I made last week and attach 2 bows to clips

20121207-093603.jpg
And start on a few more snap bags. I finished bows for a friend. She had wanted matching bows for a Christmas party

20121207-093914.jpg
So today I will be crafting like crazy.

Tomorrow is going to be a fun day. A quick trip to “The Strip” for some yummy treats. My favorite shop is The Pennsylvania Macaroni Warehouse and Wholey’s
Cheeses, olives, Italian meats, fresh breads and homemade pasta are just a few of the items on my shopping list. And then tomorrow night is my first Ugly Sweater party. I’ve always wanted to go to one. But for some reason I’ve never had one so thankfully a friend is having what I hope will become an annual party. I’ll try to post pictures of the sweaters later but 1st I have to find one. This is the hard part. I love anything Christmas and think that they are all adorable in their own way. So I can’t decide which would be “ugly”. We are also having a gift exchange. It will be an As Seen On TV gift exchange. I can’t wait to see what everyone picked. For my gift I chose a newer product, Gray Away It should be a lot of fun!

Sunday is a down day for us this week but next week is packed. My Hubby’s birthday is Wednesday, PTC has a school event, Thursday is the school Christmas program and Monday, Wednesday and Friday I have volunteered to help with Santa’s Secret Shopping at the school. This is a small fundraiser for PTC. We purchased items in bulk and priced them between $1-5 and the kids get to shop for gifts for their family. They will have a day to browse and then another day to bring their money to purchase. I can’t wait to see what gift my son picks for us. I am also going to be doing a craft with his class Friday afternoon. I’m very excited about this. The next few weeks are packed with fun, friends, and family!

Hope y’all have a great weekend!

Great Weekend

What a great weekend! Got some errands ran on Saturday and finished working on house. Sunday was filled with family fun. It was great!

Finished up some Christmas leg warmers.

And finished some more of the no sew blankets for the kids Christmas presents. Relaxed a little and had a lot of fun. Sunday we had waffles for breakfast, courtesy of my $8 Black Friday find. And then celebrated A’s 4th Birthday at the Children’s Museum. It was a rocking good time! She had a Rock Star party theme. She loves music and singing and dancing. It was so cute to watch the kids play with the karaoke machine. Her mom made microphone ice cream cone cupcakes and they were adorable.

Pictures the best I have hope you can see how cute they were.

After the party we got pizza from our a absolute favorite pizza place, Dicarlos, and then once again visited the Festival of Lights. I could drive through them 100 times a year and never tire of seeing them. And then it was home to snuggle in our bed with popcorn and watch Author Christmas. It was a cute movie and the kid loved the snuggle time. I figure I should take advantage of it now at 5, because the years seem to be going so fast that I may not have much longer.

Another busy week ahead and one more closer to the big mans arrival! Hope y’all have had a great Monday!

Saturday’s here again!

Yay! It’s Saturday again!

Busy day ahead. Breakfast with Santa at the school this morning, some shopping before my Kohl’s Cash expires, maybe talking the husband into a few more Christmas deco, finishing the house lights and the maybe Festival of Lights.

Breakfast with Santa will be our first visit with the big guy this year! So we are excited. Kid actually can’t wait to tell him what he wants this year. I can only imagine what it will be since it changes weekly. This is the first time our PTC has planned this event and it has so far received a great response. It should be a great fundraiser.

Over the past week I’ve been working on house decorations. I took a break Thursday after Wednesday’s losing battle with the extension cord and steps but yesterday it was game on. We still have a few lights to hang on a few windows and readjust some icicle lights but its almost finished!

20121201-072126.jpg
I can’t wait to get it all lit up!

During my little break I decided to make dresses for my friends little girls. And since kid was feeling left out I made him some pj pants.

20121201-072357.jpg

20121201-072404.jpg

I’m really enjoying my sewing machine. But I think I’m gonna have to take a break so I can finish up a few Christmas presents. This year instead of toys for my friends little ones I’ve decided to make them all no sew blankets in a favorite character or pattern. I’ve only completed 3/9 I plan on making, so I better get busy.

Hope y’all have a great weekend!

Wednesday Blues

Since I just realized this failed to post Wednesday night here it is now and I’ll post again later.

Oh the joys of decorating the yard. I really have the Wednesday blues. Not only am I sad that a few of my Christmas lights decided to stop working, my ankle, knee and shin are actually blue with a little black and purple. Thankful just some scrapes and bruises. Me-0, Stairs and Extension Cord-1. They win I’m not going for best 2 out of 3. Guess that’ll teach me to watch where I’m walking when steps and extension cords are involved. However, on a positive note, I’m happy with the way the inside is looking and one side of my yard is looking pretty fun!

Since returning from our trip the hubby has been away on business and I’ve been trying to catch up on the unpacking. But in between all that, I’ve managed to be a little crafty. My friend’s little girl is having a birthday party soon and asked me to make some bows for the goodie bags. So yesterday I spent my free moments making her these 10 purple, pink and black rockin’ bows

20121128-190418.jpg
And today I got to craft and decorate for Christmas. I saw this snowman on Pinterest and could wait to try it out. I still need boots and arms but I think he’s looking pretty cute!

20121128-190914.jpg
I was pretty excited about the hat. It was the first sewing project I’ve tried since being home.

20121128-201802.jpg

20121128-201816.jpg

20121128-201830.jpg

Hopefully in a few days I’ll have everything put away and the house completely cleaned and pictures of a fully decorated house. But for now I’m gonna rest my poor knee and ankle and regroup for my attack on the house tomorrow.
Good night!

Home Again Home Again Jiggety Jig

It’s time to head home. And since I have roughly a 14 hr car ride ahead of me, I apologize if I begin to ramble. This is always the worst part of the trip. No matter what happens during the week, the laughs, arguments, sickness (allergies) and all other family dramas, leaving is always hard. I first moved away when I was 12. My sister and I would visit during the summer for a month or so and then head back before school started. Then sometimes there were the holidays. But as we grew older the visits became less frequent because of school, work, kids and all the other responsibilities that we receive with age. Now we visit every Thanksgiving and at least once during the summer. I really wish we lived closer.

The overall trip, as always, was a blast! The kids all loved getting to play together (10 under 10), the adults had fun talking, cooking and crafting. And my Nanny had fun watch/help all of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids do all the above. It’s was great. We all managed to be in the same house at the same time and have a great meal together. And ever meal at Nanny’s is a great meal. One of my favorites is Chicken Spaghetti

20121125-095714.jpg
Boil chicken
Spaghetti
add can cream chicken or mushroom Ro-tel
Velveta.
After spaghetti is cooked and drained add all ingredients. Super simple and delicious.
Other faves from this week include: homemade chicken and dumplings, broccoli cornbread, cornbread dressing, lemon icebox pie, cake cookies and pumpkin roll. And since I’m in car and on my phone the pictures of the above can’t be added. I’m adding the cake cookies to my list to make for my christmas cookie exchange. So easy to make.
Box of cake mix any flavor
1 stick room temp butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
8oz cream cheese room temp
Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, add vanilla then beat in cake mix. Cover and set in fridge (overnight if possible) at least 2 hrs. Roll into balls (about a tbsp) roll in powder sugar, place on cookie sheet. Bake @ 350 for 10 min and cool for 5 min. Can also add coconut and pecans.
But believe me when I say all was DELICIOUS!

And like I said eating is not all that occurred this week. There was also crafting and shopping. Nanny and I were up a few nights until after midnight working on something. She helped me get my sewing machine working, I made some hair bows to match outfits she had for my niece, and we worked on a few things together. I taught her a new way to knot no see blankets and she taught me how to make snap bags

20121125-101709.jpg Christmas present I made for my niece

20121125-101717.jpg my first sewing project I completed by myself

I showed her how to make leg warmers and she showed me how to make pillow case dresses

20121125-101943.jpg

20121125-102034.jpg Pillowcase Dress with bubble skirt

We also made my puppy a new dress (yes I dress my dog and she loves it)

20121125-102253.jpg
And a new bowtie for my cousins pup

20121125-102332.jpg
We also made some wreaths

20121125-102453.jpg one my sister made for me

20121125-102530.jpg one I started for my aunt. She can’t decide what she wants to add for Christmas. And thanks to a blog by gentlestitches I browsed thru some of my Nanny’s buttons for a future project.

20121125-115046.jpg and this is just a small sampling!
And to take a break from the eating and shopping, my sister, aunt and I went shopping!

20121125-102856.jpg Yep we ventured out into the wilds of Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping. And wild it was. Some people are crazy! There are always things on Black Friday we want but never enough to trample others, argue with some one, or run through a store like there’s a fire licking at my heels. We will try to get to a store an hour before opening to get in line or stand beside coveted items but there are some people who are scary. They get that crazed look in their eyes and you can almost see them thinking of ways to get people out of their way to get the newest or best low priced item. I was amazed by the number of people out and about and how excited they were over $8 crock pots, $3 pillows or $1.50 towels. I watched people climb over each other for the $8 crock pots. It was funny and scary. I grabbed my $8 waffle iron and blender and snuck away to watch from the sidelines. I also didn’t sprint to these items or initially know about these items. While the others flew thru the newly opened JCP doors and proceeded to run like the hounds of jells were nipping at their heels to the left I, being very curious as to what would cause this reaction, followed at a much slower pace and more direct path. And what a scene I beheld. But seeing and opening and a waffle iron I slipped in grabbed and was quick to be gone before a I was trampled. And after a 15hr shopping trip I have to say we were all very satisfied with our finds. Some of which were lucky finds hours after the initial start. Over all I was able to purchase everything I needed for family there so I didn’t have to worry about shipping later, a few small items for The Kid and a few fun family items like the waffle iron and my new carry on

On The Road Again

Over the hills and thru the woods to grandma’s house we go!

So I didn’t read the website right and Santa’s Candy Castle wasn’t open today but we did manage a stop at The Christmas Store and The Holly Tree. Where I got some cute Christmas deco.

20121120-112517.jpg

20121120-112526.jpg

20121120-112533.jpg

20121120-112540.jpg
No cocoa or nice list certificate but hopefully on our trip home we can swing by again.

I however still remain extremely excited because with in the next 4 hrs I will be at Nanny’s and the Thanksgiving festivities will begin! I can’t wait to see everyone and I know the kid is super excited to see his cousins. Plus I will be out of the truck and will be able the stretch and move and walk around. This leg of the trip is the shortest only 4 1/2hrs compared to yesterday’s 8hrs but it seems so much longer. So for now I gaze out the window at the dwindling hills and all of falls brown glory

20121120-113330.jpg and count the minutes until I’m home for the holidays.

If anyone is traveling today or later this week, safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving!
