While I was Away

Again I’ve not taken time to write. I always tell myself “Oh I’ll do it before bed or tomorrow first thing in the morning.” And here I am again a month gone by and no post. I need to get work on a weekly schedule. I did so well for a while but now it seems days fly by before I actually sit down and type. It’s not like I’m never on here either. I still check and read other blogs (although its usually a quick glimpse). I look over other post but never take the time to catch up on mine. My goal is to post once a week!

Since I’ve been gone I’ve been keeping busy. My mom came to visit for a week and we had our first baseball practice. I’ve tried new recipes and did some spring cleaning. We’ve been able to do yard work and start seeds. So at least my neglect has been for productive reasons. Haha!

My mom’s visit was great. She hasn’t been here for a few years and hadn’t seen the kid for almost a year. He was so excited Nana was staying with us! They got to have a night together and the man and I got a night out with friends. She was able to see his first baseball practice. It’s his first year of T-ball and dad is coaching. Over all it was a great visit. Sometimes it’s a little sad that he doesn’t get to have that special bond with her and see her often. But it makes these visits all the more special.

Now that the baseball season has started the weekends are going to be busy. All our games and practices are on Saturdays and Sundays. It’s so cute to watch the kids out on the field. They are so excited! I can’t wait to see them all dressed in their uniforms (which I hope to pick up tomorrow). I’m not entirely happy with the set up of the league but watching the kids have so much fun makes up for the rest.

With the warm weather sticking around we’ve been able to start cleaning up the yard and getting it ready for cook outs and a garden. I decided to start seed for the garden last week. I have a few that are already sprouting. I’m hoping they all do! This year I’m trying watermelon. The kid really wanted it so we’re giving it a shot. I hope it does well. Fingers crossed! It looks like my beans are sprouting and either my lettuce or spinach. I’m not really sure which. I took photos or my starters and on the 1st I had places a piece of paper so I knew which direction it faced, whoever, on my 2nd I didn’t.

20130508-231801.jpg My basil and rosemary are doing great. I’m so happy to have the fresh herbs in my kitchen window. It’s so nice to walk over and grab from them while cooking.

The first recipe I used them in was one I saw on Food Network. It was on Giada At Home. It’s Baked Potato with Sausage and Arugula Sauce It was so good. The recipe doesn’t call for basil but I love it so I added a little.

20130508-232501.jpg Another favorite or mine has been what I call Chicken Caprese.

20130508-232633.jpg again the fresh basil was awesome. I can wait to make this with tomatoes from my garden.
I also tried a dessert, it’s not pretty but it was yummy!

20130508-233629.jpg

With all this nice weather and mom’s visit and baseball I’ve been struggling to go upstairs and craft. I’ve finished a few pairs of leg warmers today. And I got a pair of bloomers finished for my friends daughter E, but I’ve not made anything else. The bloomers are a little difficult, I need A LOT of work on my sewing technique. I just can’t master the leg openings. E needs a few more bloomers so I’m hoping that practice makes perfect.

And to add to all my fun, today I signed up to sale Paparazzi Jewelry. Not sure exactly how well I’ll do with parties or events, I get a little nervous around people i don’t know, but I love jewelry. I can’t wait to see what all is in my kit! Next week will be like Christmas.

Weekend is here again!

It’s the weekend!

This should be an exciting weekend. Kid starts basketball at the YMCA tomorrow, date night with the hubby and baby shower Sunday! All kinda of fun. I’m excited about the basketball. I’ve never really been a fan of watching it ,I’m more football, but he’s finally old enought on start playing sports. We’ve played spring and fall soccer last year but this year we get to try basketball and baseball. It’s all his choice on which we play but I love seeing out there with the other kids having fun. He chose to try baseball this spring over soccer but he can do that in the fall also if he wants. But so far he seems to like trying the different sports. And then after the basketball game the hubby and I get a date night. We don’t have set plans yet but I’m sure we can find something to do kid free.

This week has been crazy. Are furnace went kaput so we are in the process of getting a new one. Hopefully before the really cold weather next week. My car battery died on me yesterday so that was just the icing on the cake. Haha. But it has motivated me to take my frustrations out on my crafts. This week I finished another ton of leg warmers, quite a few bows and felt pins. Which was fun since I dove into the buttons I gathered from my Nanny’s over Thanksgiving.

20130118-171756.jpg

Another result of my frustrations has been cooking. I made yummy spaghetti squash with onion, garlic and a little nutmeg. It was great. And last night I chopped up grilled chicken breast and added bits of fresh mozzarella chunks to melt, fresh basil, tomatoes, and drizzled with garlic infused red wine vinegar and evoo. It was a great dinner!

Hopefully this weekend makes up for the week! Hope y’all have a great fun weekend!

Snowy Shopping Day

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I know my house had an excellent few days. The kid was very pleased with Santa and his gifts. The hubby and I didn’t do too bad either. I do believe that we will be building with Legos for the next few months. The kid got Legos and Legos and more Legos this year. We were up at 7am and began the opening process. With a 5 yr old it doesn’t take to long to rip open the paper so it was over way to soon but luckily I got a few pictures. As soon as the paper was cleaned up it was time to start playing. Legos and video games! I’m not sure who enjoys the Legos more the kid or hubby or myself. And while we worked to build the monster train and bat mobile and ninjago vehicles we were also cooking.
Christmas dinner was very yummy this year. Top two dishes: Hubby’s Stuffing and my Brussels Sprouts. Other notables potatoes from a Pinterest recipe and black eyed peas from a Food Network Magazine recipe. The food was great, we had a great visit with family and the kid got gifts he loved. Over all it was a 5 star holiday.

I would have loved to have a white Christmas but that didn’t happen. However, today we have snow and rain and ice. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying after Christmas sale shopping! Every year I get up early and take a few hours of on my own, stress free, kid free, spouse free shopping. I buy some pretty Christmas items, grab a few presents for next year and replenish my gift wrapping supplies. This year I got a few pretties but was a little disappointed at the lack of Christmas lights on the shelves. And now we have decided to brave the snow and head to Ikea. I would like to change up the kids room a little. When we left the house I didn’t quite realize what the roads were gonna be like once we were out and about. And so after some slush and only one lane cleared we have made it close to our destination and have hit snow covered

Hope everyone has a great day shopping, playing, cleaning or whatever you do on the day after Christmas!!

Home Again Home Again Jiggety Jig

It’s time to head home. And since I have roughly a 14 hr car ride ahead of me, I apologize if I begin to ramble. This is always the worst part of the trip. No matter what happens during the week, the laughs, arguments, sickness (allergies) and all other family dramas, leaving is always hard. I first moved away when I was 12. My sister and I would visit during the summer for a month or so and then head back before school started. Then sometimes there were the holidays. But as we grew older the visits became less frequent because of school, work, kids and all the other responsibilities that we receive with age. Now we visit every Thanksgiving and at least once during the summer. I really wish we lived closer.

The overall trip, as always, was a blast! The kids all loved getting to play together (10 under 10), the adults had fun talking, cooking and crafting. And my Nanny had fun watch/help all of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids do all the above. It’s was great. We all managed to be in the same house at the same time and have a great meal together. And ever meal at Nanny’s is a great meal. One of my favorites is Chicken Spaghetti

20121125-095714.jpg
Boil chicken
Spaghetti
add can cream chicken or mushroom Ro-tel
Velveta.
After spaghetti is cooked and drained add all ingredients. Super simple and delicious.
Other faves from this week include: homemade chicken and dumplings, broccoli cornbread, cornbread dressing, lemon icebox pie, cake cookies and pumpkin roll. And since I’m in car and on my phone the pictures of the above can’t be added. I’m adding the cake cookies to my list to make for my christmas cookie exchange. So easy to make.
Box of cake mix any flavor
1 stick room temp butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
8oz cream cheese room temp
Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, add vanilla then beat in cake mix. Cover and set in fridge (overnight if possible) at least 2 hrs. Roll into balls (about a tbsp) roll in powder sugar, place on cookie sheet. Bake @ 350 for 10 min and cool for 5 min. Can also add coconut and pecans.
But believe me when I say all was DELICIOUS!

And like I said eating is not all that occurred this week. There was also crafting and shopping. Nanny and I were up a few nights until after midnight working on something. She helped me get my sewing machine working, I made some hair bows to match outfits she had for my niece, and we worked on a few things together. I taught her a new way to knot no see blankets and she taught me how to make snap bags

20121125-101709.jpg Christmas present I made for my niece

20121125-101717.jpg my first sewing project I completed by myself

I showed her how to make leg warmers and she showed me how to make pillow case dresses

20121125-101943.jpg

20121125-102034.jpg Pillowcase Dress with bubble skirt

We also made my puppy a new dress (yes I dress my dog and she loves it)

20121125-102253.jpg
And a new bowtie for my cousins pup

20121125-102332.jpg
We also made some wreaths

20121125-102453.jpg one my sister made for me

20121125-102530.jpg one I started for my aunt. She can’t decide what she wants to add for Christmas. And thanks to a blog by gentlestitches I browsed thru some of my Nanny’s buttons for a future project.

20121125-115046.jpg and this is just a small sampling!
And to take a break from the eating and shopping, my sister, aunt and I went shopping!

20121125-102856.jpg Yep we ventured out into the wilds of Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping. And wild it was. Some people are crazy! There are always things on Black Friday we want but never enough to trample others, argue with some one, or run through a store like there’s a fire licking at my heels. We will try to get to a store an hour before opening to get in line or stand beside coveted items but there are some people who are scary. They get that crazed look in their eyes and you can almost see them thinking of ways to get people out of their way to get the newest or best low priced item. I was amazed by the number of people out and about and how excited they were over $8 crock pots, $3 pillows or $1.50 towels. I watched people climb over each other for the $8 crock pots. It was funny and scary. I grabbed my $8 waffle iron and blender and snuck away to watch from the sidelines. I also didn’t sprint to these items or initially know about these items. While the others flew thru the newly opened JCP doors and proceeded to run like the hounds of jells were nipping at their heels to the left I, being very curious as to what would cause this reaction, followed at a much slower pace and more direct path. And what a scene I beheld. But seeing and opening and a waffle iron I slipped in grabbed and was quick to be gone before a I was trampled. And after a 15hr shopping trip I have to say we were all very satisfied with our finds. Some of which were lucky finds hours after the initial start. Over all I was able to purchase everything I needed for family there so I didn’t have to worry about shipping later, a few small items for The Kid and a few fun family items like the waffle iron and my new carry on

Woohoo Monday!!!

Woohoo Monday!!! That is definitely not the most common word used to describe Monday but today it is the way I feel! The last few days have been filled with cleaning and laundry and packing. One day I WILL learn how to NOT over pack.

20121119-100511.jpg

It’s almost time to leave for out Thanksgiving trip. In just a few short hours we will be loaded up and on our way to our first stop, Santa Claus IN. I’m so excited I barely slept last night. It could have been a mixture of excitement to leave and the remnants of excitement from the movie I watched before bed. Yes, I will admit it. I’m a Twilight fan! I by far like the books over the movies (I usually like the book better then the movie) but the last movie was by far the best. Back to my trip, I can’t wait to see my family! Typically we only get to visit twice a year. I believe this will be our third this year. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite trips though. We hang out, we cook, we shop and we craft. There will be pies and turkey and ham and tons of other awesomely homemade treats. We will scrap and make bows and hopefully my Nanny can fix my sewing machine. The kids and dogs will play and it’ll be great!

But before we get all the way to Nanny’s house, we will make a stop in Indiana. We have been stopping in Santa Claus on our way home for the past 4yrs. It’s became part of out Thanksgiving tradition. This year we are stopping on our way to Thanksgiving Dinner. We visit the Santa’s Candy Castle, where we get a hot chocolate (27 flavors), maybe a piece of handmade candy, a new Christmas book, and check the naughty/nice list. Checking the list has become one of my favorite parts. Kids are able to chat with an Elf via the North Pole Network. They answer a few questions about the past year, tell Santa what they’d like and then they are presented with a certificate for being on the nice list. The owner prints this certificate and in front of the store presents it to the child and everyone claps and cheers. The owner is super nice and great with kids. They also allow the kids to make snow. Other stops we make include the Santa Claus Museum and Village, Santa Claus Christmas Store and Evergreen Flower & The Holly Tree Gift Shop.

I could go on and on but I’ll save some for another post.

For now I’m going to double check my list and hope I have all I need. Have a great day and I’ll have Santa Claus IN pics tomorrow.

It’s Saturday!!!

Busy, busy, busy!!! But so excited! Almost Thanksgiving and I can’t wait!

Finished up leg warmers for a friend, added a date personalization to an ornament, and got my sisters “order” for personalized gifts for Christmas presents she would like me to make. And the best news…. I got my first Etsy sale! So excited. I’m glad some one else liked my little peacock as much as I did!

Today is out towns Christmas parade. It’s gonna be fun. I love Christmas time and even though its super early. I found Hot Chocolate Cupcakes at Walmart and Starbucks Salt Caramel Hot Chocolate. I thought they sounded like yummy before/after parade snacks.

20121117-130730.jpg
And then may a trip thru the Festival of Lights!

More laundry and packing for trip today. Hope y’all have a great Saturday Night!

Yesterday’s Come and Gone

I was hoping to get a chance to write this last night but I was one sleepy girl.
So, Tuesday night I made Rustic Italian Chicken and I give it a thumbs up. I think after I add more veggies I’ll give it 2 thumbs up. I was thinking squash, zucchini, and some onion would be a nice addition.

Yesterday was another busy day. I realized yesterday that I only have 4 days (now 3) until we leave for Thanksgiving vacation. That means this weekend I’m gonna be a cleaning machine! I like coming home to a clean house after being away. Plus we always have tons of stuff we bring home. Between Black Friday shopping and Christmas gifts for the kid (easier then family shipping them) that the back is completely full and then the entry is completely full when we arrive home. Clean house means I have an idea where to place all the things we return with.
I still haven’t really had a chance to do too much crafting. I’ve just been finishing up a few leg warmers for a few friends. I’m sure that next week I’ll have nothing but craft projects to post. My Aunt and Nanny have already told me about a few things that are on our list.

This Book Fair at school as been so much fun. Today we also have a family style Thanksgiving dinner for the kids. This is the first year my son and I get to be a part of these activities and I’m really excited. I’m so thankful that I have the opportunity to be a stay at home mom and volunteer at kid’s school.
Hope y’all have a great day!

What A Day

What a day! Book Fair all week at school and I was there all day!

No time for crafting today. I volunteered at the school Book Fair this morning and ended up staying all day. It was a little hectic but a lot of fun helping the kids. Pre K and Kindergarten weren’t too hard. We were able to help them write down title and prices but those 1st and 2nd graders are definitely more independent. All were a little loud and rowdy, but who wouldn’t be getting to try and narrow down 100 books to just 5! Seeing their selections and hearing why they like the books was wonderful.
I was ready to come home at the end of the day. I was a little tired. I feel like I had 1000 conversations today and was pulled in 1001 directions but it was worth it to see the happy little faces!

And to top off my day, I came home to a wonderful smelling home. I love my crock pot! I knew I would not be in the mood to cook tonight so I threw some ingredients into it and now all I have to do is cook some pasta and dinner is ready. Recipe for the night is Slow Cooker Rustic Italian Chicken
When I opened an email from Pillsbury yesterday and saw the picture I knew I had to try this recipe. I’ll let y’all know what it’s like tomorrow. Now I think I’ll try to finish some projects before supper time. Hope y’all have a great night

Just Another Monday

Oh Monday you’re back once again bringing an end to the weekend.

I actually have nothing to complain about this Monday. Kids are off school today so no early morning fighting to get kid up and ready. No rushing to make sure that we have all school stuff together. It’s been a pretty nice day. Kid slept in a bit and I had a little quiet time this morning. Started on snowmen for my sister

20121112-161042.jpg
Worked on more leg warmers

20121112-161141.jpg

We got to have lunch with the hubby at Perkins. Not my fave but not too many choices close to home. Then a little shopping (didn’t find what I wanted) and off to the movies. Yes, we are seeing Wreck-It Ralph again. It’s really cute so I don’t mind. We’ll probably purchase the DVD too. But with no school comes friend time! Yay! We get to hang out with our friends today. M and I loaded up the kids and after the movie we will be enjoying Steak Night. A local restaurant offers $7.99 steak night with baked potato and their awesome cheesy bread and salad. I could eat the salad and bread every day and still want more. It’s one of my favorite local places.

This weeks gonna be busy. I have PTC stuff all week plus getting house and laundry ready for out Thanksgiving trip next week. So a few hours a day at school working the book fair each day, all day Thursday for book fair and the family style Thanksgiving dinner PTC gives the kids. Hope to also finish up a few projects for a few people and gifts for others.

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Sunny Sunday

Today was BEAUTIFUL! Sunny, warm perfect spring day. Oh wait, sorry it’s mid November. Where’s the nice brisk cold, maybe a few flurries? Dont get me wrong I loved that it was so pretty but I would prefer a nice sunny day and a little chill in the air.

The nice day did aid in helping get the house Christmas ready. Icicle lights are now on the roof, net lighting stapled to the fence and a few net lights are zip tied around the trees. The rest I can do by myself after we return home after Thanksgiving. I can’t wait. I love Christmas trees and lights! I could keep my house decorated year round. I do in fact have a tree in my entry that stays up all year (I decorates it thru out year). At this moment 11-11-12, I have 4 trees up and decorated. 2-3 more will be up and ready over the next week. I know I’m crazy, it’s ridiculous etc…etc. my friends remind me constantly.

Any who, after getting some of the house prep finished I worked on some projects. Today’s were leg warmers and matching bows. 20121111-203757.jpg

20121111-203828.jpg
Hope y’all had a great weekend! Happy Veterans Day! Thanks all that served!
